DD Sports is the only free to air (FTA) sports channel in India. It launched on March 8, 1999. In the beginning only six hour programs broadcasted through this channel in a day. But at the end of the year 1999 the broadcasting time increased as twelve hours for a day. On 1 June 2000 it became a 24 hour sports channel. This channel was a pay channel during the period of 2000 to 2003. On 15 June 2003 it turned as a free to air (FTA) channel again.
