SURVIVING MUMBAI
DISCOVERY CHANNEL REVEALS THE INSIDE STORY OF THE NOVEMBER 26 TERROR ATTACK AS TOLD BY SURVIVORS
New Delhi, November 23, 2009: The terror attacks in Mumbai, India, on November 26 last year goes down as one of the darkest days in the India's history. The events that transpired held the world’s attention for three continuous days, and left people shocked and horrified in the months that followed. But in many ways, the story - in words and pictures - that we all absorbed was an opaque account. We watched reports from the outside of burning buildings, quick sound bites from survivors as they rushed from the siege and later accounts from the trial of the surviving terrorist. What actually went on inside those buildings? We read and hear so much about terrorism, but what is it actually like to experience it?
INDIA-UNREST-ATTACKS
Discovery Channel’s special programme SURVIVING MUMBAI chronicles the events of the attack, featuring personal accounts from people who were caught in the siege. Excerpts from the actual transcripts of the phone conversations between the gunmen and their commanders together with CCTV footage from the hotels give a chilling account of the real story.
SURVIVING MUMBAI premieres on Discovery Channel on Thursday, November 26 at 8 PM, with a repeat at 9 PM.
Commenting on the programme, Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager, India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific said, "SURVIVING MUMBAI” presents an account of the terror attack as told by the survivors. It tells a story seldom heard by anyone but family and close friends."
Seyfi and Meltam Muezzinoglu - a couple from Turkey - were taken hostage early on and spent eight hours in the gunmen’s close company. They offer an extraordinary insight into the brutality and surprising naivety of the young gunmen. Anjali and her American husband Michael who hid in the Chambers at the Taj Hotel tell how their mobile phone saved their lives and how the same almost gave the gunmen the information that could have killed them. The one-hour programme reveals never-seen-before footage from amateur cameras and mobiles. Discover the dramatic role that modern communications played: mobile phones, the Internet and 24-hour television news.
Revealing the inside story of the attack, SURVIVING MUMBAI shows how well-equipped, well-informed and tech-savvy the gunmen were to have planned such a massive attack, and retells the trauma the hostages went through for over 60 hours.
