1. Question: Hi,

I am Krishna Kumar and at present in Nigeria, I saw your blog regarding Indian DTH companies. I want to know can I watch any Malayalam channels in Nigeria. At present there is no option to watch any Malayalam channels. I bring Dish TV set up box and LNB from India and tried, also not working. The local service provider is saying this set up box and LNB can work in big dish antenna. Kindly confirm if the big dish can get the signal from our satellites.

Answer: To receive a satellite channel depend upon the footprint of the satellite and the size of the dish antenna. All DTH providers in India have no coverage in Africa. So you cannot able to capture the signal of Dish TV in Nigeria even though by using a big dish antenna. There may  be a chance to receive the c band wide signal from Insat 2 E at 83 degree by using a 16 feet and above dish antenna.

(a) Question: Thx for the detailed reply. In c band signal which decoder and LNB you are suggesting and which channel can get it from c band.

Answer: Insat 2E has foot print in North Africa and it does not have footprint in South African regions. But it does not means that it cannot receive in the South African regions. Its signal is very weak in south regions. So it needs to use a big dish antenna to receive the signal and recommend for a big size antenna. It may be need a 22 feet dish antenna to receive the signal from Insat 2E in Nigeria. If you win to capture the Insat 2E signals you will get the Malayalam channels  Asianet News, Asianet Middle East ,Kairali,We,People.Amrita,Jaihind,Indiavision,Yes Indiavision, Jeeven and Manorama news etc.

2.Question: Dear

Sir

My name is Vinu from Yemen (one of the middle east country) now I am using Eurostar receiver .I want to DD Direct plus.  Can I get DD Direct plus from normal receiver and what should I do?

Answer: DD Direct Plus has coverage  in India and some adjacent countries only. First confirm its signal available in Yemen. If it gets the signal in Yemen please change the antenna setting of your Eurostar receiver as below to receive the channel.

1. Press the "Menu" button on your remote and select the option "Installation”. 2. Select Antenna setting from the options and select any satellite name.3. Change the LNB type as universal or 9750Mhz 4.Set the 22Khz as “Off” and save the settings and then select " Manual Search" option and make sure the satellite name is the same which you set in the "Antenna Setting". Then set the frequency, symbol rate, and polarization (Vertical) and FEC as auto in your Eurostar receiver and press "Red" button on the remote control for scan.

             I am using 8 feet metal dish and using Two LNB.  Now available in Insat 4B, "C" band signal and I got Some DD channel ETV and other FTA channels. My doubt is can I get Ku band signal in same dish and position, and another doubt is Ku and C band signals strength are same or not?

Answer: You can receive Ku band (DD Direct Plus) channels in the same direction of Insat 4B by using a Ku band LNB in your 8 feet dish antenna. If the antenna is a perforated sheet antenna it may face difficult to get the Ku band signal.

Please confirm the Ku band signal of DD Direct Plus is available in Yemen. If the signal of DD direct Plus is available in Yemen, you can use an LNB with both C and Ku band. So you can view both C band and Ku band channels from Insat 4B.

There are two type of signal from satellites. They are zonal beam and wide beam. Zonal beam focus for a particular area and have a low range of coverage to compare with wide beam. All Indian DTH companies are using zonal beams for their transmission. The signal strength of C and Ku band are depend upon the foot print of the satellite and power of the satellite.
