Girls Hold All The Aces In The Grand Finale Of Amrita TV’s Super Dancer Junior-2

It is an all- girl affair in the mega Grand Finale of Amrita TV’s Super Dancer Junior-2, that has blazed breathtaking new trails of success in the history of children’s dance reality shows in Kerala.

Making sure that girls will have all the fun, Chithu Pradeeep, Malavika Krishnadas, Shifana Musthafa and Swarna Thomas have breezed into the finals, setting the stage for  a spectacular clash on the 3rd   of April.

Super Dancer Junior-2 had become something of a cult show commanding the following of millions around the globe, who tune in with something akin to religious fervor  at
8 pm, every Monday to Friday.

It was a nerve racking journey for the 16 candidates, a 7 month long journey in which they came together as prefect strangers but parted ways as bosom friends.  Some had signed on  for the glory it would bring, others viewed it as a merry jaunt, while  a few were dead serious, with their eyes fixed hungrily on the final title.

The rollercoaster of a competition with its intoxicating highs and agonizing dips became a perfect training ground that transformed hip hop experts into classical exponents and Bharanatyam specialists into western pros.

The perceptive judging duo of Sudha Chandran and Kala Master picked out 8 of the best who moved into the semifinals, which winnowed out the Final Four after 3 levels of intense scrutiny.

Malavika hailing from Palakkad, the complete danseuse who floored Kala Master with her
effortless mastery in every genre of dance is aiming to cap her many feathered hat with the coveted title.

Chithu Pradeep, the tenacious lass from Kollam who waltzed back from the brink of elimination with a string of astounding performances, declared firmly that to be Super Dancer Junior was the greatest ambition of her life, to up the ante.

Shifana Musthafa, the petite bombshell from Ernakulam who grittily overcame numbing pain and a fractured arm, earned the respect and admiration of even Sudha Chandran,to storm into the finals.

Swarna Thomas, the strikingly good looking, heroine-in-the-making came all the way from Maharashtra to dazzle home crowds with her looks and grace.

In the run up to the finals, as the fan clubs of each contestant keep their fingers crossed and the  other participants bask in the warmth of shared moments, the finalists are giving  it all they have got,  for the high noon of their lives.

Amrita TV’s ‘The Truth’ Continues To Prevail Successfully

Amrita TV’s ‘The Truth’ which had been enlightening the general populace on vital issues relating to eminent personalities in  the centre-stage of society, is well into its second season. It is telecast every Sunday at 8.00pm.

An astutely penetrating celebrity chat series, The Truth lines up the most high brow, pugnacious and artful luminaries from the current political, social and cultural milieu.

In the direct, one to one encounter between the interviewer and interviewee, the presenter sets the ball rolling by lobbying  well researched and neatly phrased questions at the celebrity.

Though sensitive to the general scenario, the public may be in the dark about the dynamics of group politics, the intricacies of wheels within wheels or the supremacy tussles taking place in the inner sanctums of power. The anchor who on the other hand has the advantage of inside information and the benefit of background knowledge is able to frame precise, authoritative  questions that ring with the conviction of authentic details.

While being to the point, the questions are loaded  with facts that summarise the bare bones of  the matter, so that the viewer can grasp the backdrop and significance of the question and the answer that follows.

The masses who witness  the daily dramas being played out on the political arena may be full of misgivings on certain subjects. The Truth pegs its inquiries on these incidents as a result of which  the queries posed by the anchor are the very same questions, the common would have asked the celebrity, had he been able to meet him face to face.

Interviews may either be ‘issue based’ interrogations that chip away at some topics of current relevance or the ‘personality oriented’ conversation that dips into the individual’s childhood, youth, education etc to paint a portrait of the person. The Truth blends the best of both, so that at the end of each episode not only are issues sorted out  and controversies laid to rest but  the viewers also get a full character sketch of the celebrity.

Many presenters adopt a censorious and belligerent approach, often resorting to below the belt tactics that trip the celebrity into incriminating himself .The interview is reduced to an inquisition, a baiting exercise to extract delectable sound bytes.

The Truth never recourses to intimidatory  ploys that may transform the interview into a verbal wrestling match. Keeping in mind that the interviewee is an invited guest, the anchor plays the perfect host maintaining the niceties of hospitality. The questions may be blunt, but are delivered courteously with due civility and respect, never crossing the boundaries of decency or  decorum. This attitude invites confidence rather than compels replies, so that the guest parts with facts willingly.

The Truth offers the celebrities an opening  to make a clean breast of contentious affairs, to elaborate their stand on controversies or explain comments blown out of proportion thus helping to wipe away blots on their reputation; for the viewers, the show puts things in the right perspective so that they can view matters in the sparkling light of absolute truth.

AMRITA TV LAUNCHES SWAPNAKOODU

Swapnakoodu is an architectural manual that roams through the landscape of dream dwellings exploring habitats of  every size, style and budget; it is a construction guide which leads the viewers through the ABC of building a house, from basic design to final finish. To be launched on February 12th, it will be telecast every Saturday at 12.30 noon.

Cast into 4 segments, each episode of Swapnakoodu introduces the viewer to a single residence which may be a cottage, an apartment, a villa, bungalow  or mansion that falls into low cost, medium budget or exclusive division categories. The episode presents the house from 2 different perspectives, the standpoint of the owner, the man in possession and the architect, the brains behind the structure.

The anchor shows the  viewers around the house, conducting them through the rooms to give them an idea about the layout of the building ;then settles down for a chat with the landlord, drawing him out about the master plan he had in mind, the alterations it had undergone, whether it was built  to plan or took on extensions, by how much it had overshot its initial estimates, the features that makes it exclusive, his favourite nook in  the house and most importantly, if the edifice measured upto his expectations or whether the final outcome had fallen short of his fantasies.

In the next segment, the architect who had given concrete shape to the owner’s ‘flight of fancy’ evaluates his handiwork, the way he had crafted the house to satisfy every demand of the client while staying within the budgetary boundaries, how the plan was adapted to the lay of the land, the design that gave the feeling of wide open spaces, the improvisations for the free flow of light etc.

The next part opens the door to new technologies of building construction such as interlocking  bricks, ecofriendly techniques of green buildings etc while Pazhama Peruma, the concluding part delves into the depths of tradition, examining the marvels of antique architecture such as Kuthiramallika, Padmanabhapuram Palace and so on.

Swapnakoodu  offers a wealth of options in plans, designs and layouts, a bounty of alternatives in colour schemes, floorings, fittings and furnishings that  suit  the purse and conform to the concepts of  those who have attained their dream home but are embarking on modifications and of others for whom a nest of their own, is still a castle in the air.

Surge in Ratings for Amrita TV

An analysis of recent Television Audience Measurement(TAM) ratings for the period Jan 23- Feb19,2011 (Week 5 to 8) shows that Amrita TV has emerged as the second most preferred destination for viewers in the 8-10 pm band on weekdays among Malayalam channels. The surge is shown across the 15-55 age group among both males and females cutting across socio-economic segments

The  program which has become a discussion point among viewers in India and Middle East among a cross-section is the trend setting real-life show,"Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham" which is telecast Monday through Friday,9.30- 10 pm. "Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham", Amrita TV’s progressive but atypical courtroom show, that is giving a new interpretation to the concept of social commitment has completed 150 episodes in March 2011.Hosted by yesteryear super star, Vidhubala, along with Kerala State Legal Services Authority, this unique program has witnessed consistent ratings. In effect this program is commanding nearly 50% of channel share of female viewership in this time band, among Malayalam general entertainment channels

Another program which shows huge viewer acceptance and steady ratings is the one-hour dance talent hunt for children,"Super Dancer Junior"; the only dance show for the Under-15 on Malayalam television, which is telecast five hours a week(Mon-Fri 8 - 9 pm). It has become a runaway hit due to the fascinating blend of young talent and eminent jury panel comprising Sudha Chandran and Kala Master, acknowledged dance divas. This is the only show in the dance reality show  genre which generates maximum TVRs and channel share.

While tear-jerkers and inane soaps normally rule the roost in prime time,Amrita TV serial," Chela Nerangal, Chela Manushyar", based on Jnanapith Award winning novel of Jayadevan has notched the second position for the channel on weekdays at 9 pm. The ratings reveal an aggregation of a growing class of serial viewers who appreciate fine stories, good acting and great production values.

Another property which is making viewers stay tuned to Amrita TV is the recently launched "Spot News". Amrita TV is the only entertainment channel to introduce two-minute "Spot News", a half-hourly news snapshot, which has been received very well among news-obsessed Malayalis. Surprisingly, while News is traditionally associated with male viewers,"Spot News" is rated highly among both genders with consistent ratings from 6 pm to 10 pm, generating 700 TVRs or 2 TVR per minute,in the 15-55 age group across all male and female target groups

Additionally,a striking trend is the emergence of Amrita's News Bulletins as the Numero Uno choice for Malayali viewers.Aired six times daily at three-hourly intervals, the TAM reveals that in these specific time bands Amrita ,despite being an entertainment channel, commands a leadership position among  Malayalam news channels--in particular, the News at 11 am and 3 pm are ranked No.1 in the CS 4+ segment.

Amrita TV’s Willow War Follows Through On ICC Matches

When the dark horses and the green horns strap on their pads for the ICC World Cup,  Amrita TV’s Willow War too takes the field to offer a stump view of each match.

Every morning at 8.30am, an unbeatable team of national players, cricket experts and  columnists take guard on Willow War to offer postmortem reports of past matches
and  studied forecasts for future contests, with the  help of appropriate videos.

The first analytical segment of previous matches, which discusses threadbare the ploys that had failed and  the ruses that had fooled,  reveals  how a captain’s strategy had backfired, why a bowler who had been sprayed for sixes was sent in to bowl at the death or how complacency that can be deadlier than a bouncer whipped the bails off sure victory.

In the 2nd part, the experts gaze into the crystal ball and try to figure out which of the rival teams will carry the day, the maneuvers they could use, the tactics that might work, whether the pitch will be partial to pace or lean toward spin, will the dew play spoil-sport and  should the teams be batsman heavy or loaded with  bowlers.

Vox Populi, that gives snap polls of popular opinion may find a place in Willow War for crunch matches.

As the 14 contending teams waging war against each other, fight to the last man to win the biggest cup of them all, Willow War which captures the ecstasy, the enchantment and the delirium of the ICC World Cup will hook the viewers’ attention as much as Pieterson’s flamingo shot, Dilshan’s Dilscoop or Tendulkar’s paddle sweep.

Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham Crosses 150 Episodes

Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham, Amrita TV’s progressive but  atypical courtroom show that is giving a new interpretation to the concept of social commitment completes 150 consecutive episodes on March 2nd.

Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham telecast Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm, is a legal counseling programme where actual disputes, real conflicts and authentic discords that tangle up family relationships are brought to the studio floors, unraveled and smoothened out.

Set in an atmosphere which promotes reconciliation and hosted by veteran actor Vidhubala along with an expert legal panel, the warring parties arrive at a mutually agreeable settlement of the problem through dialogue and discussion.

Through its moving delineation of  familial imbroglios Kathayalla Ithu Jeevitham has  quietly activated   a revolution that conferred a hitherto unrealized dimension to television entertainment as raw, real life problems presented in unvarnished detail captivated prime time audiences everywhere.

Kathayalla, Ithu Jeevitham which handles cases ranging from marital disharmony, dowry harassments to ownership disputes and  gender discrimination is basically an out-of-court settlement that offers a feasible alternative to traditional courts of justice.

It brings together siblings, spouses, relatives and neighbours  who may have ruined their lives fighting prolonged legal battles and by effecting quick and effective redressal of  their grievances achieves swift and practical dispensation of justice.

It is for the first time in television where slices of unclothed realism extracted from the chapters of feuding families is depicted by the very characters enmeshed in the problem, so that the viewer experiences the bare truth in all its savage starkness.

Its episodes are mirrors that reflect common familial disputes and as such the audience  find echoes of their own disharmonies in them. Alerted against similar predicaments that may crop up in his life, he is equipped with ways to tackle such disasters if they should occur . Kathayalla, Ithu Jeevitham thus serves as a forewarning, a deterrent, a cautionary note or sometimes a wake-up call to many of its viewers.

Amrita TV’s ‘Spot News’ Hits Bull’s Eye

Spot News, Amrita TV’s latest addition to its news reporting arsenal has been steadily climbing up the TAM ratings  since its launch a month ago.

Spot News is a 2 minute news capsule that delivers crisp, current, pertinent headlines from around the globe, hot from the spot , once every half-an-hour.

These brief, concise bulletins which covers every day of the week from 6 am to 12 midnight are telecast 28 minutes and 58 minutes past the hour i.e., at 6.28 am,6.58 am etc.

Each communiqué consists of 4 major headlines highlighting the most important  happenings  in the world transpiring at that point of time, from the State to the national
and international level. The headlines are reinforced by illustrative visual footage taken from the best global news agencies.

Spot news condenses news stories into snappy incisive one-liners which while being to the point , always convey the full essence of the report.

The 2 minute pellets airs news even as it is unfolding somewhere in the world, carrying it live and hot off the press to the viewers.

Amrita Television is the first channel to try out such a bold and imaginative exercise that could well change the way news may be presented and perceived.

One has to wait for the clock to strike the news hour to tune in to conventional news bulletins whereasSpot News updates with front burner news almost on a continuous basis.

Lengthy communiqués break into widely watched programmes like films and cricket matches, interrupting their flow while Spot News quickly gives the rundown without being obtrusive.

Half-an-hour and one hour bulletins covers each story in great depth and detail, compelling the audience to sit through the entire broadcast to catch up on the latest but Spot News makes a long story short by cutting out the extra trimmings to focus on the meat of the matter. What took an hour to be expressed is now conveyed in a minute or two.

Spot News has been able to carve its niche because it has filled  the latent requirement of  Keralites who have neither the time or inclination for  protracted news reports, but like to be in the know.

An epigrammatic tablet that brings relevant news from the very spot it takes place, when it occurs, as it happens, Spot News helps Keralites sprint alongside the headlines without waiting all day to be briefed.

Super Dancer Junior-2 Rock n’ Rolls To Its Century

Super Dancer Junior-2, Amrita TV’s mega reality show in the dancing genre which had been choreographing a stupendous success story for  5 months, has tangoed to its one hundredth episode.

Second in a super hit series, Super Dancer Junior-2 swirled across the State like an irresistible epidemic, a perfect entertainer of a show that proved to be contagious to both children and adults. With the audience getting  hooked on the show every weeknight at 8.00pm, the reasons for its near monopoly of the air waves aren’t too difficult to nail down.

As in season-1, this edition too had the pick of the best dancing talent from every part of the State. These little pocket dynamos were polished to high perfection through the grooming sessions and the thoughtfully  selected rounds, while cajoling them to  put their best foot forwards in their favourite genre, also compelled them to pirouette through unfamiliar terrain, thus giving  a sharper edge to  the competition.

Through anchor bytes, judges comments and family participation the contestant’s character, strengths, weak spots, fears etc were mapped out in detail. With each succeeding episode these personalized interactions made the participants familiar, close, dear to the viewers who developed emotional bonds with them.

Sudha Chandran who dared Fate by dancing classical Bharatanatyam on a Jaipur foot to incredulous audiences across the globe and Kala Master, the Czarina of cinematic choreography, the two permanent judges on the 3 member panel  have added sizzle and zip to the competition.

Sudha, a fashion designer’s dream with her sequenced sarees,  eye-popping accessories and overwhelming bindis who teases, chaffs, mimics, sometimes playfully bullies the participants has a quip, comment or retort for every occasion. Kala Master plays the quiet serious foil to her effervescent partner but joins in gamely in every antic or prank that ‘Sudhaji’ thinks up. Giving spot on detailed assessments of every performance and pinpointing the flaws,  they provide a mother’s touch to the young contestants, allaying fears and  assuaging nervousness.

Sheha  and Nasneen the beautiful anchor pair, themselves Amrita TV’s Super Dancer products have been piloting the show smoothly often exchanging rapid fire verbal sallies with Sudha Chandran . With their gorgeous designer wear, the duo have become the talking point in schools and colleges.

The celebrity guest list have been a parade of almost every budding heroine in Malayalam from Meera Nandan, Mythili, Dhanya Mary Varghese,Mukta, Ananya, Sharanya Mohan, Mithra Kurien, Sarayu, Vishnu Priya besides veteran directors like Lal Jose, Major Ravi, Saji Surendran etc. Together the contestants, judges, celebrities and anchors blend  into a mix of dance, drama, suspense and  thrills shaking  into a heady cocktail that is too exhilarating to switch off.

On D-day, Friday January 21st , Super Dancer Junior-2 celebrated its century landmark with its signature mix of superlative entertainment- a thematic fashion show for which the contestants walked the ramp in pairs; a Q& A round wherein they had to give witty repartees to the mischievous queries fired by the judges; impromptu dances where Sudha Chandran and Kala Master took the contestants’ parents for a spin on the stage.

Midway into its semi-final stage, Super Dancer-2 is traipsing into the pages of history, being one of the rare instances in which the sequel goes one better on the original.
