Amrita TV’s Programmes Enhance The Lustre Of Diwali

On October 26th , as the fireworks explode heavenwards, painting the skies into a gigantic landscape of brilliant sparks and rainbow hues, Amrita TV celebrates Diwali by sketching a series of programmes across the canvas of the festive day.

At 9.00am while the day glistens in the radiant beams of a young sun, Amrita TV presents Mummy & Me, a coming of age movie that showcases Archana Kavi in an author backed role, along with sparkling performances from a supporting cast consisting of   Urvashi,  Mukesh, Kunchako Boban, Suresh Gopi etc.

When the astronomical sun rules the heavens  at the zenith of its power Snehathanthram, a programme featuring another sun Mohanlal who holds the reins of  the silver screen, in conversation with Sathyan Anthicaud will go on air at 2.30pm.

Under the burning rays of the fiery afternoon, scorching the television screens appears Harimuraleeravam at 3.30pm, a glowing musical tribute to master lyricist Girish Puthencherry, in which the glitterati  of the film world that includes acclaimed   director Shyamaprasad, famous music director M.Jayachandran, veteran actor Siddique, an overwhelming  playback line up of Sujatha, Madhu Balakrishnan, Gayathri and Sudeep Kumar,  come together to pay obeisance to the maestro in a musical concert, in which they sing the best and most popular songs from his exquisite compositions.

When the blazing sun that crowned the day slips over the horizon, the pearly luminance of the dusk is brightened by the luster of a row of celebrity performances from the patriarch of Malayalam film music P.Jayachandran, noted singer Palakkad Sriram, playback stars Madhu Balakrishnan and Manjari followed by a dazzling dance number from starlet-anchor Malavika in a Diwali special episode of Super Star The Ultimate at 7.30pm.

At 8.30pm while the shimmer of little oil lamps lit in every Indian home rolls back the inky blackness of the Amavasi night, the spotlight turns on Super Dancer Junior-4 ,with a special devotional performance by current title holder Fida,a semi-classical performance by gorgeous anchor Sheha, a pure classical rendition of the story of Diwali’s origin by a group of Kalmandalam alumni and much more.

Finally as the contestants and judges of  Super Dancer Junior-4 join hands onstage to commemorate the vibrant festival, the lamps are snuffed out in this year’s Diwali and  another Festival of Lights dissolves into the wispy fumes of our memories.

Amrita TV Spreads Choral Rhapsodies To The Gulf In ‘Deva Geetham Middle East’

Deva Geetham, the first ever reality show for Christian choir songs in Malayalam, baptized viewers into the cadences of the melody-rich but unexplored world of Church music.
Now,  in its second season, it travels across the Arabian deserts as Deva Geetham Middle East, to usher Gulf Keralites to the alter of choral diversity .The show will go on air every weekend from Friday to Sunday at 10.30pm UAE (12 midnight IST).

Deva  Geetham Middle East  holds an additional laurel in its cap-it happens to be the first reality show hosted by any Malayalam channel to be conceived, produced and shot on Gulf soil.

Out of the field of  about 25 choir groups from churches in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and every emirate of the United Arab Emirates, eight of the best performing choristers were singled out for the choir contest.

Each team consists of around 20 members, out of which 15 are carolers grouped into the 4 standard singing  voices of soprano, alto, tenor and bass while 5 are expert instrumentalists who comprise the orchestra that provides musical backing to the vocalists.

The rounds cover the entire choral music tradition chapter and verse, with Biblical topics of  Christmas, Easter, Psalms etc   featuring prominently in the competition; it also presents special themes like lullaby, drama round, film music, tribute to eminent persons etc.

The  devout renderings  will be appraised by a panel whose credentials make them worthy of being in the judging seat of such a contest: Ouseppachan, veteran music director who started his career as a choral violinist, Father Anthony Uruliannikkal a celebrated name in the devotional songs circuit and Shibu Chakravarthy renowned film lyricist will chair the jury.

A reality show that sings hallelujah to a thousand year old tradition of religious music, Deva Geetham Middle East will go a long way to promote, familiarize and popularize a divine musical style that has till now only resonated within the secluded cloisters of churches and the domed interiors of cathedrals.

Amrita TV Captures Gulf Keralite Life in Middle East Panorama

Middle East Panorama, Amrita TV’s new Gulf-aligned show, is a collection of current affairs stories that offer a casement to the Arab world and gives new insights into the lives of Keralite expatriates residing in the Persian Gulf countries. The latest addition to Amrita
TV’s overseas programme line-up, the half hour weekly show will be telecast every Thursday at  10.30pm,  UAE time.(12 PM IST)

Middle East Panorama pans across the vista of Malayalee existence in the peninsula and records moments from the lives that unfold beneath the glitter of the desert paradise- of  the laborers, the semi skilled workers and blue collar employees who subsist on a mere pittance, in dismal conditions to support their families back home and return empty-handed , once their contract expires. Visiting the vegetable vendors, fish market sellers, potters etc in their workplace, it documents the difficulties and travails of eking out a living, the uncertainty that always looms over their future, their fears of being terminated abruptly.

Tucked in between these slices of authentic narratives are intriguing vignettes of amazing souls who, like fireflies light up the lives of others, ordinary laborers who set apart money from their meager incomes  to help those in need .Interesting news feature snippets that acquaint us with the developments, events and advancements of the region  also make it  to the segments of the show.

Through these images of unclothed reality, the programme sketches Gulf life as it really is, in tints of black ,white and shades of grey, to serve as eye opener to the world of the
Non- Resident Keralite.
