There are seven companies giving DTH (Direct To Home) services in India now. The DTH companies in India are Zee TV’s “Dish TV”, followed by Doordarshan’s “DD Direct Plus” “Tata Sky” (Owned By two companies. Tata: An Indian company that famous in the production of steel Sky: The company under STAR TV) “Sun Direct” under the Chennai based SunTV , Anil Deerubai Amabanies Reliance “Big TV”, Barathi Airtels “Digital TV” and finally Videocons “d2h” DTH.
Doordarshan DD direct plus considered as the worlds one and only free DTH service .It is under the control of Indian government. There are fifty nine channels available in “DD Direct Plus” service. Twenty three of them are channels of Doordarshan itself. Thirty four private channels are also available. Two channels are in test transmission. Indians can receive these channels from Insat 4b at 93.5 degree east with a Ku-band dish antenna and with a digital receiver with out paying a single Rupee.
If it wants to receive sports channels and wants to see movie channels in Hindi or in English, it is better to approach the dealer of a private DTH company and ask for the channels they are transmitting now. Ensure the channels that you want have in their packages. Some DTH companies are not transmitting some channels .Some of these channels can receive even with a C-band dish antenna in the free to air (FTA) mode.
