DD Malayalam or DD 4 is the Malayalam satellite channel of Doordarshan started on 1994. It relay the terrestrial Malayalam language transmission and continue to transmitting Malayalam programs when the terrestrial transmitters relay the DD1(National) Hindi programs.As other Malayalam channels it also transmits 24 hour a day. Its terrestrial transmission began on 1 January 1985 inaugurated by K. Karunakaran who was the chief minister of Kerala in that time.The terrestrial transmission named as DD Keralam. DD Malayalam give impotence to the traditional art forms and cultural programs of Kerala. DD Malayalam attract viewers by the noncommercial and informative programs they are transmitting. It has a remarkable position among other Malayalam satellite channels. People who hate the commercial mega serials and want to view variety of programs with out particular time schedule like this channel very much.
