Amrita TV Covers Local Body Polls In Detail

The countdown to the general elections to the local self government institutions, in which major political parties lock horns in the 3-tiered corporate, municipal and panchayat levels, has begun. As a curtain raiser to this massive effort in management in which 2.25 voters exercise their franchise in 40,000 polling booths, Amrita TV will telecast three programmes focused exclusively on local matters and problems. These election special programmes starting on September 27th , the day notified for the filing of nominations will stretch up to October 22nd, the eve of the elections.
Slated for the 6.30-7 slot, Ulthudippukal is a 6 episoded weekend show that will give an accurate measure of the pulse of the electorate by providing insights into problems that are of absorbing interest to the general public: drinking water scarcity, water management, housing problems, sand mining issues, development plans and its subsequent displacement of people.
As the electorate gets ready to cast their vote to around 22,000 seats, a team of correspondents will journey to selected panchayats and corporations in Nattupatha at 2.30 pm from Monday to Thursday. Special panchayats which have either commendable achievements to their credit as the Kunnathukaal Panchayath in Trivandrum which has developed a special educational model for them selves or those that have been at the eye of a storm like the Coco Cola struggle in Plachimada  Panchayath in Palakkadu ,will feature in the programme.
The local body polls are a warm up to the assembly elections just around the corner and are likely to mirror its outcome. Jana Samaksham anchored by the Regional bureau heads at 5.30 pm Monday through Friday will deal with the political scenario in each district, culminating in a final State round up.
