DD1 or DD national is the national channel of India. It celebrated golden jubilee on 15 September 2009. It started transmission on15 September 1959 as a part of All India Radio or Akashavani. The transmission was an experimental basis. The first transmission was one hour program per two days for a week. The regular transmission started in Delhi in 1965, in Mumbai 1972, in Kolkata1975 and in Chennai 1975. The programs in that time mainly based on agriculture, education and health programs. On 15 September 1976 India government started a new company named Doordarshan for television broadcasting. In 1982 Doordarshan transmit it first color signals to transmit Asian Games held in New Delhi. Now Doordarshan have 64 production center and 30 television channels.
