Now cable TV and DTH service are fighting in the market to gather new connections. When cable TV come with an attractive monthly rent scheme and giving less channels to compare DTH services. Cable TV providers give more importance to regional channels and most popular channels in other languages. When cable TV operators are giving all the channels in the regional language of a state when DTH could not cover all the channels in a regional language. DTH service providers are give a lot of channels in number but if it wants to get popular channels the costumer should spend more money to compare to the cable TV services.
The picture and sound clarity of DTH is very higher to compare cable TV because the signal from the satellite are directly received by the DTH antenna and send to the set top box. There is no interruption by the long coaxial cable and distance. In cable TV the received signal converted, modulated, mixed, amplified and then supply through the coaxial cable. When distance from the destination increased then the clarity of the Cable TV is also decreased. The line amplifiers are used to amplify the signals to travel in a long distance and reduce the signal noise in cable TV.
The different subscription packages and value added services are available in DTH services but there is no such a packages are available for cable TV subscribers. When the channel number goes to the higher band then the channels clarity is very poor in cable TV. Even though cable TV remains as the biggest television network in India after the entry of DTH in about 10 years before in India, because it gives the essential channels to the subscribers and gives regional programs in a very low cost. Pogo, Discovery, Animal Planet, National Geographical Channel, Star Sports, ESPN, Star Cricket, Cartoon Networks, HBO, AXN etc are the main other channels supplying by most of the cable operators.
Carriage fee and the taxes are the main problems in DTH industry, now. A carriage fee is the amount that wants to pay by the channel to the DTH company to carry their one channel in the DTH platform for a year. Most of the DTH providers have a carriage fee of 3 to3.5 core in a year when DD Direct Plus has only 60 lashes for a year. Regional language channels could not able to pay this amount for all of their channels for different DTH companies. They pay for one or two channel from their bouquet. So some regional language channels are missing from DTH. People who speak a particular regional language will search for another source where they get all of the channels in their mother tongue. The taxes paid by the government on the DTH providers are very high now. A huge amount of their revenue has paid as taxes.
According to a cable man from one of the cable companies in my area who has been to India, broadband and DTH are big rip-offs. No one brand can be called best. It depends on factors such as, which brand gives you more channels you like at a great price, customer support, etc. He said it would be wise to ask a lot of friends around before you go for a brand.
